The Efficiency of Information Departments

Previously, I was looking thru the British Home Office website as well as looking up on info regarding British Visas to see whether it'd be feasible for me to work in the UK. It looked like I could apply for a particular visa but I needed to reconfirm whether I could apply for it here or if I had to go all the way back to Singapore just to get it. Now I looked thru the whole website for an e-mail address and there wasn't any, only phone numbers. Now I wasn't willing to call because of the potential costs I might incur being put on hold. And so, I got my darling sister to help me in this process. She assisted me in calling the British Home Office to enquire on my situation. The guy at the office told her it could be possible to apply for it in Switzerland but he wasn't sure and gave her an e-mail address so that I could direct my query to. At that moment I was relieved. Finally, an e-mail address to someone who could help me.

And so, a simple e-mail was sent.

Dear Sir,

I am currently in the midst of my degree at the International Hotel Management Institute in Luzern, Switzerland. I hold a Singaporean passport and would like to apply for a working holiday visa to come to the UK for an extended period of time after I graduate in June 2008. I would like to enquire if it would be possible for me to apply for it from the British Embassy in Berne or is it absolutely necessary for me to go back to Singapore to apply for one?

I hope you are able to answer my query. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you and best regards,
Jonathan

And with great enthusiasm I waited. A week later, a simple reply was given back to me.

Thank you for your email. Please consult the website www.visainfoservices.com.
